Statement Of Purpose Essay STATEMENT OF PURPOSE It is after a good deal of self-evaluation that I have decided to pursue graduate studies in computer science. This decision followed after carefully appraising my academic performance, my areas of interest, my ultimate ambition, which is to pursue a research career. The urge to obtain an in-depth understanding and specialized knowledge in my areas of interest, has made me apply for an MS program. My bachelors program in Information technology discipline at N. I. S. T(Nimra Institute of Science and Technology), one of the premier engineering colleges affiliated to the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University O. N. T. U. ) Hyderabad has given me a substantial knowledge of the basic areas of computer science and electronics. I have striven to develop a clear understanding of the basic concepts and acquire an insight into the Computer Science.. I have been greatly motivated towards Graduate studies during my undergraduate study. The curriculum at SRTIST exposed me to the broad areas of computer science and gave me plenty of opportunities to develop my interest in a particular area. The basic undergraduate courses like Data Structures, Computer Architecture, Advanced Computer Architecture and Operating Systems have given me a sound foundation in the Computer Science domain. The advanced electives like Computer Networks, Computer graphics, Data Base Systems and Discrete Mathematics and Graph Theory have exposed me to some key research problems in Computer science. My research interest lies mainly in Computer Networks . This area of specialization requires excellent computer lab facilities and highly qualified, research oriented faculty and as your Grad school is much more heavily biased. I want to pursue a Masters Program in Computer Science, as I want to upgrade my understanding of computers and improve my programming skills. And to do it in the United States of America, the country that still carries the spirit of the Renaissance and is the torchbearer of the triumph of the human spirit, is exciting. The US, at this point of history, is the toast of civilization and is the forerunner among nations in the IT revolution. The vast knowledge, human, and material resources make the march of the technological ngine possible. I have also had a good deal of teaching experience during my 4 years of undergraduate study in this college. I have given seminars in my class on various topics Which gave me an opportunity to build up my interpersonal skills and I had an course students. This experience convinced me that I have the communication skills and the articulation required. My academic performance is a testimony to my ability to pursue my graduate program. I am confident that given an opportunity, I will match the high standards set by this prestigious University. Mr. XXXXX,X Statement of Purpose Essay Example Statement of Purpose Essay Statement of Purpose My name is Carlos Nieva. I received the degree of Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Telecommunications in the fall of 1998 from ITESM (Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey), Mexico. I received the degree of Master of Science in Electrical Engineering in the fall of 2002 from NMSU (New Mexico State University). My advisor and co-advisor during my Master’s degree studies were Dr. Jaime Ramirez-Angulo and Dr. Paul Furth, respectively. The topic of my Master’s degree thesis is â€Å"Low-voltage, class AB and high slew rate two-stage operational amplifiers†. The curricular focus of my bachelor degree is in electronics and communications. During my undergraduate studies I took several courses covering topics in electronic design, analog and digital communications and microwave devices such as transmission lines and antennas. The curricular focus of my Master’s degree was strongly based in analog circuit design using CMOS technology. My circuit designs were implemented with a point fivemicrometer CMOS technology. My thesis proposes a new op-amp architecture that operates at very low voltages and offer higher speed performance compared to classical op-amp architectures. The thesis project includes the circuit design, spice simulations, the chip layout design and the chip testing at the laboratory. The chip layout design was sent to the MOSIS service for fabrication. During my Master’s degree I took courses in CMOS analog, digital, RF and mixed signal design. Other complementary courses taken for the completion of the degree were in the areas of microwave engineering, DSP and communication systems. The areas of research that I am interested in are classified into one of the following categories. The second area of interest is the development of circuits for RF and high-speed mixed signal applications. Some examples for this area of interest are RF front ends, mixers, PLL, frequency synthesizers, VCO, filters and data converters. A third area of interest is the development of circuits for microwave applications such as radar, remote sensing and satellite broadcasting. The research experience I obtained during my Master’s degree studies helped me develop the skills I consider very useful to perform research. I was able to clearly understand the basic concepts behind the circuit designs, summarize information from related bibliography and compare existing designs to the design proposed in my thesis. After finishing the research for my Master’s degree, I feel that I have the necessary tools to start a research project that will lead to an original contribution in the area of Electrical Engineering. I know that to channel my research efforts I need to find the correct PhD program with the most successful and experienced faculty to guide me through this journey. During my Master’s degree studies at NMSU, I was a teaching assistant throughout all my studies. The courses that I taught were Basic Electrical Networks laboratory, Introduction to VLSI laboratory and Digital VLSI design laboratory. In those two years of teaching courses for undergraduate students I realized that it gave me a lot of satisfaction seeing my students learn from my lectures. I tried to focus my lectures on concepts that I, from my personal experience as an undergraduate student, consider hard for the student to understand. So after giving my lecture, I felt satisfied knowing that my tudents had understood such concepts faster and through a lesser effort than is normally required. After completing my Master’s degree studies I am convinced that teaching and research is what I enjoy the most and that it is the activity I would like to dedicate the rest of my life. Now I am looking for a PhD degree program that will help me to further develop my experience in research and teaching. After completing my PhD degree in Electrical Engineering my plans are to obtain a Professor’s position at a recognized University, to build a research program with close ties to industry, and to teach classes related to my research field. Fortunately I have two years of experience working for industry and I think I may employ that experience to offer my students an insight of what is happening outside Academia. Furthermore, my relationship with industry will continue to develop through my PhD studies because I was awarded with a GEM fellowship (National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science, Inc), which is an organization that in combination with an industry sponsor will support my graduate studies and will offer me summer internships with the sponsor. In my case the industry sponsor is Intel Corporation. With this opportunity in hand, I will be able to increase my industrial experience and at the same time establish important industry relations that will help me later, as a College Professor, to find funds for my research.

The Great Gatsby Dreams Essays - The Great Gatsby, Daisy Buchanan

The Great Gatsby Dreams Essays - The Great Gatsby, Daisy Buchanan The Great Gatsby Dreams The Great Gatsby Dreams The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is a novel about the American Dream. In the Great Gatsby, the dream is that one can acquire happiness through wealth and power. To get his happiness Jay attempts to reacquire the love of his lost sweet heart, Daisy. The main problem with Jays dream is that Daisy is all ready married. Gatsby's personal dream symbolizes the larger American Dream The pursuit of happiness. Jay Gatsby longs for the past. Surprisingly he devotes his adult life trying to recapture it and dies in its pursuit. In the past, Jay had a love affair with a young rich girl, Daisy. Daisy and Jay had fallen in love with each other in spite of knowing that they could not marry because of the difference in their social status. For the first time in Jays life he was truly happy. During their courtship, Jay was sent off to war. Upon returning from the war, Jay found out that Daisy had married a wealthy man by the name of Tom Buchannon. Jay then spends his life acquiring wealth to reach her economic standards, in hope that he can marry her and rekindle the happiness that he once had. His love for Daisy was impossible in society because he was at present a penniless young man without a pasthe had no comfortable family standing behind him (156). Gatsby encounters his dream of love at this point of his life. He knew that at that time a relationship of love was impossible with Daisy due to his low social standing. Gatsby became determined to breach that gap between them in order to have a loving relationship with Daisy. He did reach the physical circumstances necessary to love her, but he had focused too much on money and power the previous five years of his life. He wanted his love with Daisy to flourish. Unfortunately, he had lost the ability to love. He no longer possessed moral integrity or the ability to handle a relationship. Society is often broken up into different social groups by their economic status. Those of lower classes believe that their problems will go away if they can gain enough wealth to reach the upper class. Many people believe that the American Dream is this joining of the upper class, and once reaching that point, not having to be concerned about money at all. The logic behind this is that being poor keeps people from being happy, and once you become rich, you do not have to struggle with the problems of life, and can therefore be happy. The Great Gatsby takes this belief, and shows its flaws through the lives of Jay, Tom and Daisy. In fact, all of the characters in the story are affected in some way by the lives of these three characters. Gatsby makes becoming an upper class citizen his priority. The life of the upper class in turn, makes the acquisition of wealth their priority. Wealth becomes Jays vehicle in his quest for his primary goal, Daisy. In Gatsby's rise to power morality is sacrificed in order to attain wealth. While the story does not go into great detail as to how Gatsbys wealth was accumulated, it can easily be seen that his business ventures were shady at best. Gatsby's dream was doomed to failure because of his lack of principles. This shows a major flaw of the American Dream philosophy, just like the get rich quick schemes of today, Jay is trying to buy Daisys love, not earn it. Nick attempts to tell Jay that his dream is pointless by saying that the past cannot be relived. Jay quickly told Nick, Yes you can, old sport. This shows the confidence that Jay has in fulfilling his American Dream, and his commitment to it. Tom Buchanan, Daisys husband, was a man from an enormously wealthy family. Nick, described Tom's physical attributes as having a hard mouth and a supercilious mannerarrogant eyes had established dominance over his facealways leaning aggressively forwarda cruel bodyhis speaking voiceadded to the impression of fractiousness he conveyed (11). The wealth Tom has inherited causes him to become arrogant and condescending to others. Tom believed that

I want a Wife Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

I want a Wife - Essay Example She ends the piece with the question â€Å"My God, who wouldnt want a wife?†(Brady), after taking a look at all the things that a women is expected to do. Looking at the piece, one can easily since Brady’s feelings of frustration and anger, but she presents them, in a humorous way. Her messages come straight across that women in today’s world need to re-invent themselves and should not look at themselves simply as wives. She decides to make her point using a satirical list of things that all wives do, and how she wishes in fact that she could have a wife to do those same exact things for her. She sees a wife not as a partner, but as something that exists to help out the man, and even includes the dictionary definition: â€Å""according to the dictionary, a wife is a "woman married to a man." But, as many women know, a wife is much more: coo, housekeeper, nutritionist, chauffeur, friend, sex partner, valet, nurse, social secretary, ego-builder, and more. Rather than complains why she herself would like to have a wife† (Brady) to further bring her point home early on in the essay. Her argument is presented very logically, and is something easy enough for even somebody against feminism to follow. She very carefully uses a list of things that women are expected to do; starting with the education that she wishes she could go back and have a wife support her while she continues it. Next she then jumps to the physical care taking duties of a wife, and the nurse role that a wife also assumes in the family. She then seamlessly transitions to the social duties of a wife and the social norms that a wife is expected to adhere to. Listing off social norms such as a wife who would â€Å"have the house clean, will prepare a special meal, serve it to me and my friends, and not interrupt when I talk about the things that interest me and my friends. I want a wife who will have arranged that the children are fed and ready for bed
